Mr. Smith practiced law for 16 years in the Santa Barbara area with ECKERT, SMITH & TYLER prior to the merger in 1994 with GROKENBERGER & WILSON, which later became GROKENBERGER & SMITH, where he practiced until GROKENBERGER & SMITH joined ROGERS SHEFFIELD & CAMPBELL IN 2018. After graduating with honors from Sacramento State University in 1975, Mr. Smith obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from Cal Western School of Law in San Diego, California, in 1978.

Mr. Smith is admitted to practice before all of the courts in the State of California. Additionally, he is a member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, and previously served as President and Director of the Attorney Referral Service of Santa Barbara. Mr. Smith is a founding member of the South Coast Homeowners Association, which was formed in 1988 to provide educational information to Homeowner Associations throughout the Tri-Counties. Mr. Smith has written articles regarding Homeowner Association management and operations and provides annual legislative updates to members of the South Coast Homeowners Association.

His representation of defendant, Blue Skies Mobile Home Park, resulted in the published opinion, Otanez v. Blue Skies Mobile Home Park (1991), which is reported at 1 Cal.App.4th 1521 [3 Cal.Rptr.2d 210].
